Softball Falls To Cerritos In Championship Game
Cerritos defeated Mt. SAC, 5-1, in the state championship game of the California State Championship tournament at Orange Terrace Park in Riverside. Mandy Pongs (2-3, 2B) and Liz Javier (2-3, RBI, R, HR) were the top hitters for the Mounties. Shelair Rowell (17-5, 3 IP, 5 R, 3 ER, 1 K) came on in relief of starting pitcher Mandy Pongs (4 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 2 K) and got the loss. Mt. SAC finishes its season at 38-18. Congratulations to head coach Kelly Ford, her staff, and the 2008 Mountie players on a successful season.

Shelair Rowell's second double of the game drove in Stephanie Tingle and broke a 1-1 tie, sparking Mt. SAC's rally in the top of the seventh inning as the Mounties held on to defeat Sacramento, 3-1, in the elimination bracket final at the California State Championship tournament at Orange Terrace Park in Riverside. Rowell (2-4, RBI, 2 2B) and Francesca Gonzales (2-3, 2 R, 2B) were the top hitters for the Mounties. Rowell (17-4, 1.1 IP, 1 K) came on in relief of starting pitcher Mandy Pongs (5.2 IP, 1 ER, 3 K) to get the win. Mt. SAC (38-17) will face Cerritos in a must-win game at 1 p.m.

Cerritos defeated Mt. SAC, 5-2, in the winners bracket final of the California State Championship tournament at Orange Terrace Park in Riverside. Francesca Gonzales (1-2, RBI, R, HR) and Mandy Pongs (1-3) were the top hitters for the Mounties. Reliever Shelair Rowell (16-4, 3 IP, 4 K) was the losing pitcher. Mt. If necessary, the decisive game of the tournament will be held immediately following the 12 p.m. game.

Mandy Pongs (25-3, 7 IP, 4 K) was the winning pitcher and Shelair Rowell got the save. Pongs (3-4, 2 RBI, R, 2B) and Alycia Romeo (2-4, 2 RBI, R, 2 2B) were the top hitters for the Mounties. Mt. SAC (36-16) will face Cypress (52-2) in the second round of the winners' bracket on Friday, May 16, at 7 p.m. at Orange Terrace Park. These two teams have played twice this season with Cypress winning both games.

Mt. SAC advances to the California State Championship tournament with today's 5-0 win over Antelope Valley in the Southern California Regional playoffs at Mt. SAC. Francesca Gonzales (3-4, 2B) and Randie Baldwin (2-3, 2 RBI) were the top hitters for the Mounties. Shelair Rowell was the winning pitcher, striking out five Antelope Valley batters. Mt. SAC (35-16) will play in its fifth consecutive California State Championship tournament on Friday-Sunday, May 16-18, at Orange Terrace Park in Riverside. The Mounties will face Sacramento City in the opening round on Friday at 2 p.m. The teams met on Feb. 16 with Sacramento handing the Mounties their first on-field loss of the season, 3-1. Mt. SAC is 4-0 in the postseason and has outscored its opponents, 17-2.

Softball Wins First Game of Second Round
Mt. SAC (34-16) defeated Antelope Valley, 6-0, in the first game of the second round series of the Southern California Regional playoffs at Mt. SAC. Lucia Rodriguez (3-3, 2 HR) and Stephanie Tingle (2-2) were the top Mountie hitters. Mandy Pongs was the winning pitcher, striking out five Antelope Valley batters. The second game of the best-of-three series will be played on Sunday, May 11, at Mt. SAC at 2 p.m. If necessary, a third and decisive game will be played following the 2 p.m. game.

Softball Advances To Second Round
Mt. SAC defeated Cuesta, 3-2, in the second and decisive game of the first round, best-of-three series of the Southern California Regional playoffs at Mt. SAC. Francesca Gonzales (1-3, HR) and Lucia Rodriguez (1-3, 2 RBI) were the top batters for Mt. SAC. Shelair Rowell was the winning pitcher, striking out five Cuesta batters. Mt. SAC (33-16) advances to the second round on Saturday-Sunday, May 10-11, at Mt. SAC.

Head Softball Coach Kelly Ford Reaches 300th-Win and is named South Coast Conference Softball Coach Of The Year
Kelly Ford, the Women's Softball Head Coach reached her 300th win against Cuesta College on Sunday, May 4 ,2008 at home. Along with this honor, she was also named the 2008 South Coast Conference Softball Coach of the Year. The Mounties completed a two-game sweep over visiting Cuesta Sunday in the first round of the California Community College Athletic Association Southern California Regionals. Ford has guided the Mounties to the past six South Coast Conference titles and three State Championships, including last season.

Softball Opens Playoffs With Win At Home
Mt. SAC defeated Cuesta, 3-0, in the opening game of the Southern California Regional playoffs at Mt. SAC. Kadie Baldwin (1-3, 2 R), Alycia Romeo (1-2), Stephanie Tingle (1-1, RBI), and Francesca Gonzales (1-3) were the top Mt. SAC batters. Mandy Pongs was the winning pitcher, striking out six Cuesta batters. Mt. SAC (32-16) will face Cuesta again on Sunday, May 4, at 2 p.m. If necessary, a third and decisive game will be played immediately following the first game to determine the series winner.

Congratulations to the following Mt. SAC softball players who were named to the NFCA All-American Team: Mandy Pongs - Utility; Francesca Gonzales - Infield; Kadie Baldwin - Outfield. This is each of these players' second year of being named to this team.

11 Mounties Earn Conference Honors; Team Will Face Cuesta In Playoffs
Mt. SAC (31-16) has been seeded third and will host the 2008 Southern California Regional playoffs on Saturday, May 3, against Cuesta at 7 p.m. The two teams will meet again on Sunday, May 4, at 2 p.m., and, if necessary, right after to determine the series winner.

Softball Wins 10th Straight To Finish Regular Season; Captures Share Of Conference Title
Mt. SAC captured its sixth consecutive South Coast Conference title with a 3-0 over Cerritos at Cerritos. The pitching tandem of Mandy Pongs and Shelair Rowell helped secure a share of the conference title for the Mounties who finished in a tie with Cerritos at 12-3 in SCC play. Randie Baldwin (2-3, 2B) and Francesca Gonzales (1-4, HR, 2 RBI) were the top hitters for Mt. SAC. The Mounties (31-16, 12-3) finish the regular season with today's win and will now await announcement of the Southern California Regional playoff pairings on Apr. 26.

Softball Wins Ninth In A Row; Will Close Out Regular Season Next
Mt. SAC defeated Antelope Valley, 9-3, in a non-conference game at Mt. SAC. Mandy Pongs was the winning pitcher and Kadie Baldwin (2-4), Francesca Gonzales (2-3, HR, 3 RBI), Shelair Rowell (2-4, HR, RBI), Randie Baldwin (3-3, HR, 3 RBI) were the top hitters. Mt. Softball Wins Seventh In A Row
Mt. SAC defeated East L.A., 10-0, in a South Coast Conference game at Mt. SAC. Kadie Baldwin (2-3, 2B), Stephanie Tingle (2-3), and Francesca Gonzales (2-2, 3 RBI) were the top Mountie hitters. Mandy Pongs was the winning pitcher, striking out six East L.A. batters. Today's win is the seventh consecutive for the Mounties and eighth in their last nine. Mt. SAC (28-16, 11-3) will host Antelope Valley and San Diego City on Saturday, Apr. 19, at 2 p.m. and 6 p.m., respectively.

Mt. SAC swept visiting Cuesta, 5-0 and 10-1, in a non-conference double header at Mt. SAC. In the first game, Liz Javier (2-3, 2B) was the top Mountie hitter and Mandy Pongs was the winning pitcher, striking out five Cuesta batters. In the second game, Francesca Gonzales (3-3) and Kadie Baldwin (2-4, 2B) were the top hitters for Mt. SAC. Shelair Rowell was the winning pitcher. Mt. Softball Wins Two At Home
Mt. SAC picked up a pair of wins in a doubleheader at Mt. SAC. In the first game, Mt. SAC defeated Cuesta, 5-0, behind winning pitcher Mandy Pongs, who struck out five Cuesta batters. In the second game, Mt. SAC defeated Bakersfield, 8-0, in a five-inning mercy rule game. Top hitters against Bakersfield were Francesca Gonzales (2-3), Kadie Baldwin (2-4, 3B), and Lucia Rodriguez (1-2, HR). Shelair Rowell was the winning pitcher, striking out four Bakersfield batters. Mt. SAC (25-16) will host Cuesta in a double header on Sunday, Apr. 13.

Softball Gets Win At Home
Mt. SAC defeated El Camino, 2-1, in a South Coast Conference game at Mt. SAC. Mandy Pongs (2-3, HR) and Heather Ortiz (2-2, 2B) were the top Mountie hitters. Shelair Rowell was the winning pitcher, striking out nine El Camino batters. Mt. Mt. SAC got back on the winning track with a South Coast Conference 1-0 win over Pasadena at Pasadena. Heather Ortiz (1-3) and Mandy Pongs (game-winning RBI) were the top hitters. Pongs was also the winning pitcher. Mt. SAC (22-16, 9-3) will host El Camino on Thursday, Apr. 10, at 3 p.m.

Softball Splits At Cypress
Mt. SAC split its games at the Cypress Tournament by defeating Palomar, 2-1, and losing to Cypress, 4-0. Against Palomar, Francesca Gonzales (1-3), Shelair Rowell (1-2) and Liz Javier (1-1) were the top hitters. Mandy Pongs was the winning pitcher. Against Cypress, Heather Ortiz accounted for the lone Mountie hit. Mt. SAC (21-16, 8-3) will resume South Coast Conference play on Tuesday, Apr. 8, at Pasadena at 3 p.m.

Long Beach defeated Mt. SAC, 2-0, in a South Coast Conference game at Mt. SAC. Francesca Gonzales was the top Mountie batter, going 2-3 with a double. The Mounties have lost three of their last four. Mt. SAC (20-15, 8-3) will play against Palomar and Cypress on Saturday, Apr. 5, at Cypress College.

Cypress defeated Mt. SAC, 10-0, in a non-conference game at Mt. SAC. Kadie Baldwin (2-3) and Mandy Pongs (2-2) were the top Mountie hitters. Pongs was the losing pitcher. Mt. SAC (20-14, 8-2) will resume South Coast Conference play by hosting Long Beach on Tuesday, Apr. 1, at 3 p.m.

Mt. SAC split on the last day of the Ventura Tournament, losing to Cosumnes River, 10-5, and defeating Fullerton, 6-0. Against Cosumnes, Francesca Gonzales (2-3), Kadie Baldwin (HR), and Randie Baldwin (3B, SB) were the top hitters. Against Fullerton, Liz Javier (2-3, 2 3B), Lucia Rodriguez (2-3, 3B), and Kadie Baldwin (2-3, 3B) were the top hitters. Shelair Rowell was the winning pitcher, striking out six Fullerton batters. Mt. Mt. SAC picked up a pair of wins at the Ventura Tournament, outscoring College of the Canyons, 19-0, and San Diego Mesa, 6-0. Against Canyons, Kadie Baldwin (3-4, HR), Stephanie Tingle (3-4) and Shelair Rowell (2-3, HR) were the top Mountie hitters. Rowell was also the winning pitcher, striking out four Canyons batters. Against San Diego Mesa, Kadie Baldwin (3-4, 3B, HR) and Alycia Romeo (2-3) were the top Mountie hitters. Mandy Pongs was the winning pitcher, striking out six Mesa batters. Mt. SAC (19-12) will play two more games in the Ventura Tournament on Sunday, Mar. 30, then will host Cypress on Monday, Mar. 31, in a non-conference game at Mt. SAC, at 6 p.m.

Softball Loses To Cerritos For Second Time This Season
Cerritos defeated Mt. SAC, 2-1, in a South Coast Conference game at Mt. SAC. This is the second time Cerritos has beaten the Mounties this season. Randie Baldwin (3-3, 2B) and Alycia Romeo (2-3) were the top Mountie batters. Mt. SAC (17-12, 8-2) will play in the Ventura Tournament on Saturday and Sunday, Mar. 29-30. On Mar. 31, Mt. SAC will host Cypress at 6 p.m. and on April 1, the Mounties will host Long Beach at 3 p.m.

Softball Blanks East L.A. On Road; Wins Seventh Straight
Mt. SAC defeated East L.A., 11-0, in a South Coast Conference game at East L.A. Stephanie Tingle (3-3), Francesca Gonzalez (3-3), and Kadie Baldwin (3-4, 2B) were the top Mountie batters. Shelair Rowell was the winning pitcher, striking out nine East L.A. batters. Mt. SAC (17-11, 8-1) will host Cerritos on Thursday, Mar. 27, at 3 p.m. Cerritos handed Mt. SAC its only conference loss, 4-1, on Mar. 4. The Mounties have won seven straight 14 of the last 15.

Softball Resumes Conference Play With Win
Mt. SAC defeated El Camino, 12-1, in a South Coast Conference game at El Camino. Stephanie Tingle (3-4), Mandy Pongs (2-2, 2B, 3B), and Alycia Romeo (2-3, 2B) were the top hitters for the Mounties. Pongs was the winning pitcher, striking out six El Camino batters and allowing only two hits in five innings. Shelair Rowell came on in relief and gave up one run and one hit. Mt. SAC (16-11, 7-1) will play at East L.A. on Tuesday, Mar. 25, at 3 p.m.

Softball Wins At Riverside
Mt. SAC defeated Riverside, 10-5, in a non-conference game at Riverside. Stephanie Tingle (4-5) and Shelair Rowell (3-5) were the leading hitters for the Mounties. Lucia Rodriguez and Diane Ortiz hit home runs for Mt. SAC. Ortiz was also the winning pitcher, striking out two Riverside batters. Mt. SAC (15-11, 6-1) will play at El Camino on Tuesday, Mar. 18, at 3 p.m.

Softball Picks Up Two Wins In Doubleheader
Mt. SAC grabbed two non-conference wins over visiting Santa Barbara, 8-0 and 9-0, in a doubleheader at Mt. SAC. In the first game, Kadie Baldwin (2-3, 2B), Stephanie Tingle (2-3), Heather Ortiz (2-3) and Missy Mendoza (3 RBI, 2B) were the top batters for Mt. SAC. Mandy Pongs was the winning pitcher, striking out six Santa Barbara batters. In the second game, Alycia Romeo (3-3), Francesca Gonzalez (2-3, HR), Kadie Baldwin (2-3, 2B), Mandy Pongs (2-3, 2B), Missy Mendoza (2-3, 2B), and Randie Baldwin (2-3, 2B) were the top Mountie batters. Mt. SAC defeated Pasadena, 8-0, in a South Coast Conference game at Mt. SAC. Stephanie Tingle (3-3, 2B) and Shelair Rowell (2-3, 2B) were the top batters for the Mounties. Rowell was also the winning pitcher. Mt. SAC (12-11, 6-1) will host Santa Barbara in a doubleheader on Saturday, Mar. 15, beginning at 12 p.m.

Softball Blanks Conference Foe Long Beach
Mt. SAC got back on the winning track with a 6-0 South Coast Conference win over Long Beach at Long Beach. Mandy Pongs was the winning pitcher and the top batters for the Mounties were Shelair Rowell (2-3, HR, 2 RBI), Liz Javier (2-3, HR, 2 RBI), and Heather Ortiz (2-3). Mt. SAC (11-11, 5-1) will host Pasadena on Thursday, Mar. 13, at 3 p.m. and will host Santa Barbara for a doubleheader on Saturday, Mar. 15, at 12 noon.

Softball Loses First Conference Game Of Season
Cerritos handed Mt. SAC its first South Coast Conference loss of the season, 4-1, in a conference game at Cerritos. Shelair Rowell (2-3) was the top batter for the Mounties. Mt. SAC (10-11, 4-1) will play at Long Beach on Thursday, Mar. 6, at 3 p.m.

Softball Reaches .500 With Pair Of Wins
Mt. SAC picked up a pair of wins at a non-conference doubleheader played at Palomar. In the first game, Mt. SAC defeated Palomar, 3-2. Shelair Rowell was the winning pitcher and the leading batter, going 2-3. Liz Javier drove in the winning run with a sacrifice fly. In the second game, Mt. SAC outscored Riverside, 7-0. Mandy Pongs was the winning pitcher and Kadie Baldwin (3-4, 2B, HR) and Lucia Rodriguez (2-2, HR) were the leading hitters. Mt. SAC (10-10, 4-0) will resume South Coast Conference play on Tuesday, Mar. 4, at Cerritos at 3 p.m.

Softball Gets Another Conference Win
Mt. SAC defeated East L.A., 8-0, in a South Coast Conference game at Mt. SAC. Top batters for the Mounties were Shelair Rowell (3-4, 2 2B), Randie Baldwin (2-2, 2B), Stephanie Tingle (2-3, 2B), Alycia Romeo (2-3), and Francesca Gonzales (2-3). Mandy Pongs was the winning pitcher, striking out six and allowing one hit. Mt. SAC (8-10, 4-0) will play Palomar on Saturday, Mar. 1, at 11 a.m. and Riverside at 1 p.m. Both games will be played at Palomar.

Softball Rained Out For Weekend
The Bakersfield Tournament, which Mt. SAC was scheduled to play in this weekend, has been postponed due to rain. The games have yet to be rescheduled. Mt. SAC (7-10, 3-0) is scheduled to host East L.A. on Thursday, Feb. 28, at 3 p.m.

Softball Remains Unbeaten In Conference
Mt. SAC defeated El Camino, 15-8, in a South Coast Conference game at Mt. SAC. Shelair Rowell was the winning pitcher and the top Mountie batters were Mandy Pongs (3-4, 2B), Francesca Gonzales (3-4, 2 2B), Randie Baldwin (3-3, 3 2B), and Lucia Rodriguez (2-4, HR). Mt. SAC, following the forfeiture of its first nine wins, is now 7-10 overall and 3-0 in South Coast Conference play. The Mounties will face Bakersfield on Saturday, Feb. 23, at 3 p.m., and Cuesta at 5 p.m. Both games will be played at Bakersfield College.

Softball Forfeits Nine Games
The Mt. San Antonio College Softball program will forfeit nine games due to an ineligible student/athlete who participated in these nine games. "We are saddened by the outcome and would like to make it clear that the violation was of no fault of Head Coach Kelly Ford nor any student/athlete," states Athletic Director, Deborah Blackmore. "It was a administrative error in which a student/athlete was deemed eligible on accident. Unfortunately this will result in the forfeiture of nine regular season games. We apologize to the student/athletes and teams which were affected by the ineligible student/athlete."

Softball Wins Big At Pasadena
Mt. SAC defeated Pasadena, 8-0, in a South Coast Conference game at Pasadena. Mandy Pongs was the winning pitcher, allowing only one hit and striking out four. Top Mt. SAC batters included Kadie Baldwin (2-4, 2B, 3 RBI), Pongs (2-4, 2B, 2 RBI), Francesca Gonzales (2-3, 2B), and Shelair Rowell (2-2, 2B). Mt. SAC (15-1, 2-0) will host El Camino on Thursday, Feb. 21, at 5 p.m.

Softball Suffers First Loss Of Season; Picks Up Three More Wins
Mt. SAC traveled north to take on three Northern California Region teams over the weekend. On Saturday, Mt. SAC defeated San Mateo, 7-2, at Sacramento City College behind winning pitcher, Diane Ortiz. Top Mt. SAC batters included Lucia Rodriguez (3-4, 2 2B), Missy Mendoza (2-4), and Mandy Pongs (2-2, 2B). In the second game of the day, the Mounties lost to Sacramento, 3-1, behind Pongs who suffered her first pitching loss of the season. Top Mt. SAC batters were Randie Baldwin (1-2) and Kadie Baldwin (1-3). On Sunday, Mt. SAC faced Sierra in a double header at Sierra College. Mt. SAC defeated the host team both games, 9-0 and 4-2. In the first game, Pongs redeemed her previous day loss by getting the win while striking out four. Top batters for the Mounties were Francesca Gonzales (2-2, 4 RBI), Pongs (2-3), Shelair Rowell (2-3, 2B), and Kadie Baldwin (2-3, 2B). In the second game, Rowell got the win and the top Mountie hitters were Alycia Romeo (2-3), Randie Baldwin (2-3), Pongs (2-4, 2B), and Kadie Baldwin (2-4). Mt. SAC (14-1, 1-0) will resume South Coast Conference play on Tuesday, Feb. 19, at Pasadena at 3 p.m.

Mt. SAC defeated Antelope Valley, 8-2, in a non-conference game at Antelope Valley. Top batters for Mt. SAC were Kadie Baldwin (2-2, HR, 3 RBI) and Mandy Pongs (2-4, HR, 2 RBI). Pongs was also the winning pitcher, striking out six Antelope Valley batters. Mt. SAC (11-0) will play Sacramento City College and San Mateo on Saturday, Feb. 16, at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m., respectively. On Sunday, Feb. 17, the Mounties will play a double header at Sierra.

Softball Wins Green & Gold Title
Mt. SAC was crowned the Green & Gold Tournament champion with two wins at Bill Barbur Park in Irvine. In the first game of the day, Mt. SAC defeated Ventura, 8-1, behind winning pitcher Diane Ortiz (3 K). Top batters for the game were Heather Ortiz (3-4) and Mandy Pongs (2-4). In the second game, Mt. SAC defeated Santiago Canyon, 6-1. Pongs was the winning pitcher, striking out nine Santiago Canyon batters. Top batters for the game were Katie Baldwin (3-4), Christine Nieto (2-2), and Francesa Gonzalez (2-4, 3 RBI). Mt. SAC (9-0) will begin its South Coast Conference schedule by hosting Long Beach on Tuesday, Feb. 12, at 3 p.m.

Softball Wins Two At Green & Gold
Mt. SAC (7-0) picked up two wins on the opening day of the Green & Gold Tournament in Irvine. In the first game, Mt. SAC shut out Moorpark, 9-0. Diane Ortiz was the winning pitcher for the Mounties. Top batters included Katie Baldwin (2-3), Mandy Pongs (2-3), Christine Nado (2-3), and Ortiz (2-3). In the second game, Mt. SAC defeated Citrus, 1-0. Pongs was the winning pitcher and went 2-for-3 at the plate. Top batters included Katie Baldwin (1-3) and Francesca Gonzalez (1-2, 3B). Mt. SAC will play two more games in the tournament on Sunday, Feb. 10. At 11:15 a.m., the Mounties will take on Ventura and at 4:00 p.m., they will face Santiago Canyon.

Softball Shuts Out Canyons
Mt. SAC defeated College of the Canyons, 20-0, in a non-conference game at Canyons. Shana Alacon (4-5, 2B), Stephanie Tingle (3-3, 2B), and Francesca Gonzalez (2-2, HR) were the top hitters for Mt. SAC (5-0). Diane Ortiz was the winning pitcher, striking out three Canyons batters. The Mounties will participate in the Green-Gold Tournament in Irvine on Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 9-10.

Softball Picks Up Two More Wins; Runs Record To 4-0
Mt. SAC defeated Ventura, 11-3, and Fullerton, 4-2, in their second double header in as many days at Mt. SAC. In the first game, top batters for Mt. SAC were Katie Baldwin (2-3), Francesca Gonzalez (2-3), and Liz Javier (2-3, 2B). Mandy Pongs was the winning pitcher and struck out five Ventura batters. Pongs and Christine Niedo each had a homerun for the Mounties. In the second game, top Mt. SAC batters were Javier (3-3, 3B) and Katie Baldwin (2-4). Pongs was the winning pitcher, running her record to 3-0 on the season. Mt. SAC (4-0) will play at College of the Canyons on Wednesday, Feb. 6, at 2:30 p.m.

Softball Opens Season With Pair Of Wins
Mt. SAC opened its 2008 season with a pair of wins at Mt. SAC. In the first game, the Mounties defeated College of the Canyons, 9-0. Top hitters for Mt. SAC were Christine Niedo (2-3, 3B), Mandy Pongs (2-3), and Chalaire Rowell (1-2, HR). Rowell was also the winning pitcher, striking out six Canyon batters. In the second game, Mt. SAC defeated Palomar, 4-0. Top batters for the Mounties were Katie Baldwin (3-3) and Pongs (2-3). Pongs was also the winning pitcher, striking out 10 Palomar batters. Mt. SAC (2-0) will play another double header on Friday, Feb. 1. At 2 p.m., the Mounties will take on Ventura and at 6 p.m., Fullerton.

Coach Kelly Ford receives the 2007 SCC Female Coach of the Year
Congratulations Head Coach Kelly Ford for winning the 2007 South Coast Conference (All-Sports) Female Coach of the Year. Coach Ford comes off a season in which she led the Mounties to its third State Championship in 5 years and fith consecutive South Coast Conference Championships. Coach Ford placed four players on the NFCA All-American Team and nine players on the All South Coast Conference First Team. Ford also guided State Player of the Year, Francesca Gonzales and the State Tournament MVP, Mandy Pongs. The 2007 Mounties led the state in overall batting average (.401) and set a state and school record for most home runs in a year with 64.


Mt. SAC Women's Softball Captures 2007 State Championship
Congratulations to Head Coach Kelly Ford and the Women's Softball Team who captured the 2007 California State Community College Softball Championship this past weekend at the Big League Dreams Ball Park in Chino Hills. This marks the third State Championship in the past 5 years (2003, 2005, 2007) for the Mounties who finish the season with an impressive 53 wins and 5 loss record, capturing the State, Southern California and South Coast Conference Championship (5th in a row).

Mt. SAC outscored their opponents 27 runs to 11 runs, shutting out 3 teams during their 4 win and 1 loss run to win the State Championships. Sophomore Pitcher Mandy Pang was named Championship Tournament MVP while Mounties Nichole Whaley (catcher), Danielle Linke (first base), Randie Baldwin (outfield) and Lucia Rodriguez (outfield) where named to the All Championship Tournament Team. Freshman Francesca Gonzales (shortstop) was named Southern California Player of the Year for her incredible season in which she hit .533 with 81 hits, 15 homeruns and a .967 slugging percentage.

Mt. SAC Women's Softball Moving on to 2nd Round of State Championship
Mt. SAC Women's Softball Team is moving on to face Golden West in the second round of the 2007 California Community College State Softball Championships. The Mounties defeated Cuesta College in a best of three game series 9-0 and 15-1. The Rustlers defeated the Citrus Owls in three games 7-9, 1-0 and 7-3 . The games will be played at the Mt. SAC Softball Field on Saturday, May 12 at 7pm and Sunday, May 13, 2007 at 2pm and 4pm if necessary. For more information contact the Mt. SAC Sports Information Office.

Mt. SAC Women's Softball Captures 5th Consecutive South Coast Conference Championship
Congratulations to Head Coach, Kelly Ford and the Mt. SAC Women's Softball Team who captured their 5th consecutive South Coast Conference Championship. The Mounties will begin their road to the State Championships in first round regional action on May 5th and 6th here at Mt. SAC (opponents to be determined). Mt. SAC will also host the 2007 California Community College State Softball Championships at the Field of Dreams in Chino, California on May 18th through the 20th.
