Three Softball Players Named To State All-Tournament Team
The following Mt. SAC softball players were named to the All-Tournament team at the 2008 California State Championship tournament at Orange Terrace Park in Riverside:
Mandy Pongs (P) - Most Valuable Pitcher & Utility Player
Francesca Gonzales (SS) - Golden Glove
Shelair Rowell (P)

Softball Falls To Cerritos In Championship Game
Cerritos defeated Mt. SAC, 5-1, in the state championship game of the California State Championship tournament at Orange Terrace Park in Riverside. Mandy Pongs (2-3, 2B) and Liz Javier (2-3, RBI, R, HR) were the top hitters for the Mounties. Shelair Rowell (17-5, 3 IP, 5 R, 3 ER, 1 K) came on in relief of starting pitcher Mandy Pongs (4 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 2 K) and got the loss. Mt. SAC finishes its season at 38-18. Congratulations to head coach Kelly Ford, her staff, and the 2008 Mountie players on a successful season.

Softball Rallies In Seventh Inning To Win; Will Face Cerritos In Do-Or-Die Game
Shelair Rowell's second double of the game drove in Stephanie Tingle and broke a 1-1 tie, sparking Mt. SAC's rally in the top of the seventh inning as the Mounties held on to defeat Sacramento, 3-1, in the elimination bracket final at the California State Championship tournament at Orange Terrace Park in Riverside. Rowell (2-4, RBI, 2 2B) and Francesca Gonzales (2-3, 2 R, 2B) were the top hitters for the Mounties. Rowell (17-4, 1.1 IP, 1 K) came on in relief of starting pitcher Mandy Pongs (5.2 IP, 1 ER, 3 K) to get the win. Mt. SAC (38-17) will face Cerritos in a must-win game at 1 p.m.

Softball Loses To Cerritos; Will Face Sacramento In Elimination Bracket
Cerritos defeated Mt. SAC, 5-2, in the winners bracket final of the California State Championship tournament at Orange Terrace Park in Riverside. Francesca Gonzales (1-2, RBI, R, HR) and Mandy Pongs (1-3) were the top hitters for the Mounties. Reliever Shelair Rowell (16-4, 3 IP, 4 K) was the losing pitcher. Mt. SAC (37-17) will face Sacramento City in the elimination bracket on Sunday, May 18, at 10 a.m. If victorious, the Mounties will face Cerritos at 12 noon. If necessary, the decisive game of the tournament will be held immediately following the 12 p.m. game.

Having lost to Cypress twice this season, Mt. SAC returned the favor with a 3-0 win over top-seeded Cypress in the second round of the California State Championship tournament at Orange Terrace Park in Riverside. Kadie Baldwin (2-3, 2 R) and Mandy Pongs (1-2, RBI, R, HR) were the top hitters for the Mounties. Shelair Rowell (16-3, 6 IP, 6 K) was the winning pitcher. Mt. SAC (37-16) will face South Coast Conference rival Cerritos in the winners' bracket final on Saturday, May 17, at 7 p.m.
Cerritos has won two of the three regular season games against Mt. SAC this season.

Mt. SAC defeated Sacramento City, 6-3, in eight innings in the opening round of the California State Championship tournament at Orange Terrace Park in Riverside. Mandy Pongs (25-3, 7 IP, 4 K) was the winning pitcher and Shelair Rowell got the save. Pongs (3-4, 2 RBI, R, 2B) and Alycia Romeo (2-4, 2 RBI, R, 2 2B) were the top hitters for the Mounties. Mt. SAC (36-16) will face Cypress (52-2) in the second round of the winners' bracket on Friday, May 16, at 7 p.m. at Orange Terrace Park. These two teams have played twice this season with Cypress winning both games.

Softball Eliminates Antelope Valley; Advances To State Championship Tourney
Mt. SAC advances to the California State Championship tournament with today's 5-0 win over Antelope Valley in the Southern California Regional playoffs at Mt. SAC. Francesca Gonzales (3-4, 2B) and Randie Baldwin (2-3, 2 RBI) were the top hitters for the Mounties. Shelair Rowell was the winning pitcher, striking out five Antelope Valley batters. Mt. SAC (35-16) will play in its fifth consecutive California State Championship tournament on Friday-Sunday, May 16-18, at Orange Terrace Park in Riverside. The Mounties will face Sacramento City in the opening round on Friday at 2 p.m. The teams met on Feb. 16 with Sacramento handing the Mounties their first on-field loss of the season, 3-1. Mt. SAC is 4-0 in the postseason and has outscored its opponents, 17-2.
