 Mendoza grand slam propels softball to state title
Mt. SAC defeated Sierra, 7-1, in the state championship game of the California State Championship Tournament at Salinas Sports Complex in Salinas, Calif. Trailing, 1-0, Mt. SAC scored six runs in the third inning, highlighted by Missy Mendoza's grand slam home run. Lisa Hernandez was the winning pitcher, striking out four in relief of starter Michelle Escamilla. Top Mountie hitters included Stephanie Tingle (3-4, RBI, R, SB), Ashlynn Booker (1-2, R) and Mendoza (1-4, HR, 4 RBI, R). This is the fourth state title the Mounties have won in the past seven seasons. Previous titles were won in 2003, 2005 and 2007.

Softball earns spot in state championship game
Mt. SAC defeated Siskiyous, 4-3, earning a spot in the state championship game of the California State Championship Tournament at Salinas Sports Complex in Salinas, Calif. Missy Mendoza (2-3, HR) hit the go-ahead and decisive home run in the bottom of the sixth inning. Christie Nieto (2-3, HR), Korinne Randazzo (2-3, HR) and Jessica Westervoorde (2-3) were the other top Mountie hitters. Lisa Hernandez was the winning pitcher. Mt. SAC (43-11) will face Sierra in the state championship game on Sunday, May 17, at 12 noon. If necessary, a second and decisive game will be held following the first game.

Baseball closes season with loss
Long Beach defeated Mt. SAC, 2-1, in an elimination game of the Southern California Super Regionals at Palomar. David Carrillo (2-3, HR, RBI, R) was the top Mountie hitter. Mt. SAC finishes its season at 30-18.

Missy Mendoza's three-run home run in the bottom of the seventh gave Mt. SAC an 8-7 win over Cypress in the second round of the California State Championship tournament at Salinas Sports Complex in Salinas, Calif. Diane Ortiz was the winning pitcher. Stephanie Tinge (3-4), Liz Javier (2-3), Slonicker (1-3, HR) and Korrine Randazzo (2-3) were the top Mt. SAC hitters. The Mounties (42-11) will face Siskiyous (47-3) in the championship bracket final on Saturday, May 16, at 7 p.m. Game stats will be posted here when they become available.

Mt. SAC defeated Sacramento City in the opening round of the California State Championship Tournament at Salinas Sports Complex in Salinas, Calif. Lisa Hernandez, who came on in relief in the fifth, was the winning pitcher, striking out three. Ashlynn Booker (4-5, HR, 4 RBI, 2 R), Missy Mendoza (3-4, RBI, 2 R), Christie Nieto (3-5, 2B, 2 RBI, R), Stephanie Tingle (3-5, RBI, R) and Ashley Larios (2-4, 2B, RBI) were the top Mountie hitters. The Mounties (41-11) will face Cypress in the championship bracket semi-final at 7:15 p.m.

Baseball drops first game in Super Regionals
Palomar defeated Mt. SAC, 5-0, in the opening game of the Super Regionals of the Southern California Regional playoffs at Palomar. The Mounties (30-17) will face South Coast Conference rival Long Beach (29-17) in an elimination game on Saturday, May 16, at Palomar. The winner will face the loser of the Palomar-Santa Ana game.

Roque and Petta compete in men's golf state championships
Andrew Roque and Daniel Petta represented Mt. SAC at the California State Championships at Sierra View Country Club in Roseville, Calif. Roque (74-69) finished in a tie for 11th place while Petta (73-74) finished in a tie for 32nd.
Baseball will face top-seeded Palomar in Super Regionals

Softball draws Sacramento in state tourney
With the #3 seed in the South Region, Mt. SAC (40-11) has drawn Sacramento (45-8), the North Region's #2 team. The teams will meet in the opening round of the California State Championships on Friday, May 15, at 2 p.m. at the Salinas Sports Complex in Salinas, Calif.
