Men's basketball remains unbeaten in divisional play
Mt. SAC defeated L.A. Trade Tech, 73-71, in a South Coast Conference North Division game at L.A. Trade Tech. Antonio Biglow led the Mounties with 25 points and three steals. Kane Robinson scored 12 points for the Mountiies while teammate Kaimyn Pruit scored 11 and grabbed nine rebounds. Mt. SAC (21-4, 5-0) will play at Compton on Friday, Feb. 12, at 7:30 p.m.

Women's basketball wins eighth straight
Mt. SAC overcame a 34-30 halftime deficit behind Brittney Lewis' 15 second-half points to earn a 70-61 South Coast Conference North Division victory over L.A. Trade Tech at L.A. Trade Tech. Lewis finished with 22 points, five rebounds and four assists. Ashley Adams (nine rebounds) and JoJo Matthews scored 12 and 10 points, respectively, for the Mounties. Mt. SAC (20-5, 5-0) will play at Compton on Friday, Feb. 12, at 5:30 p.m.

Men's tennis outscored at home
Glendale defeated Mt. SAC, 6-3, in a non-conference match at Mt. SAC. Mt. SAC's Eric Lu (6-4, 6-4) won his singles match while the doubles teams of Benson Kim/Gordon Paitimusa (8-6) and Yoshi Hisamoto/Anthony Annarino (9-7) were also victorious. Mt. SAC (0-3) will play at San Diego City on Tuesday, Feb. 9, at 2 p.m.

Baseball comes up short in season opener
Unable to capitalize on a bases-loaded situation in the bottom of the ninth, Mt. SAC came up short as Glendale handed the Mounties an 8-7 season-opening loss at Mt. SAC. Mike Newell (3-4, 2 RBI, 2 2B, 2 R), Matt Winkler (2-4, RBI, 2B) and Trent Lively (2-4, 3 RBI, R) were the top batters for the Mounties. Mt. SAC starting pitcher Cameron McVey (2 IP, 4 R, 4 ER) picked up the loss. Reliever Eric Salcido pitched six innings, allowed three runs and struck out five for the Mounties. Mt. SAC (0-1) will host L.A. Valley on Friday, Feb. 5, at 2 p.m.

Women's basketball routs Long Beach
Joyce Koloa scored 16 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to lead Mt. SAC to a 100-44 South Coast Conference interdivisional win over Long Beach at Mt. SAC. Kai Brown (12 points), Cecy Cuevas (11 points) and Tanisa Braxton (11 points) rounded out the double-digit scorers for the Mounties. Breeona Bellomy had 11 rebounds for the Mounties while scoring eight points. Mt. SAC (19-5, 4-0) will play at L.A. Trade Tech on Friday, Feb. 5, at 5:30 p.m.

Fullerton defeats men's tennis
Mt. SAC was defeated by Fullerton, 5-4, in a non-conference match at Mt. SAC. Eric Lu (6-2, 7-5), Gordon Paitimusa (6-1, 6-3) and Benson Kim (6-2, 7-6) each won singles matches for the Mounties. The Mt. SAC doubles team of Lu/Paitimusa won its doubles match (6-4, 6-3). Mt. SAC (0-2) will host Glendale on Thursday, Feb. 4, at 2 p.m.

Women's tennis dealt setback by Fullerton
Fullerton defeated Mt. SAC, 5-4, in a non-conference match at Mt. SAC. Stacey Peng (6-4, 6-4), Julianne Carluen (6-1, 6-3) and Christina Lee (6-4, 7-5) each won singles matches for Mt. SAC. The doubles team of Peng/Carluen accounted for the other team point by winning its match. Because its match with Cypress on Thursday has been cancelled, Mt. SAC (1-1) will host Mt. San Jacinto on Tuesday, Feb. 9, at 2 p.m.

Softball begins defense of state title with road win
Mt. SAC scored a 10-4 season-opening win over Citrus at Citrus. Alissa Oddo (2-4, 2 2B), Tarra Smith (2-4, HR), Christie Nieto (2-4, 2 RBI), Maurichelle Torres (2-4) and Eileen Garcia (2-2) were the top batters for the Mounties. Garcia was the starting pitcher, going two innings before Alexa Limon came on in relief. Limon shut out Citrus for five innings, earning the win. Mt. SAC (1-0) will host a double header on Friday, Feb. 5, taking on Santa Barbara at 2 p.m. and Fullerton at 6 p.m.
